The development of the camera and its widespread use in the late 19th century altered the way people perceived and documented the world. The traditional status of painting as the principal medium for visual expression was challenged by photography’s exact and objective representation of the real world. This work is an understanding of the power of pictures in forming social ideas and perceptions and a turning point in the history of art.
